Michigan Woman Is Missing In Colorado (Similar Circumstances to Pat Carnes)

DETROIT — Family and friends of a Michigan woman said she has been missing in Colorado since Friday.

Amy Ahonen, 38, a native of Taylor, most recently called Denver, Colo. home, family members said. She was last seen by her roommate on Friday.

Police said they found Ahonen’s abandoned Jeep Liberty Saturday night along a highway turnout near a fast moving creek. Saturday was Ahonen’s 38th birthday, family members said.

“The more information we get out there, the more chance we’ll have of finding her,” said Ahonen’s best friend Angie Afetian, who lives in Michigan.

Ahonen’s sister, Annette Ahonen, said she does not believe her sister took her own life.
“It isn’t uncommon for her to go hiking along the road, and she is familiar with it,” said Annette Ahonen. “There haven’t been any signs of foul play. They are treating it as a missing person.”

Amy Ahonen’s family and friends have set up a Facebook page for her called “Find Amy Ahonen.” More than 2,000 people have joined to show support in the search for Amy.

Family and friends also are planning a fundraiser for the search. For more information, go to the Facebook page:

New Leads, Possible Links in Missing Man Case:
More than a month after he disappeared, the whereabouts of an 86 year old Reno man remains a mystery, but investigators have new leads to follow.

RENO, NV – It’s been more than a month since an 86 year old Renol man disappeared while driving I-80 through northern Nevada.

Patrick Carnes fate and whereabouts remain a mystery, but investigators are now focusing on video of his last sighting and are confronted with what could be a bizarre connection with another case.

Carnes was returning from a trip to visit family in Ohio. His last confirmed sighting was a few miles east of Wells about 9 o’clock on the evening of April 13 where he was pulled over by a Nevada Highway Patrolman.

His car was found the next morning about 20 miles east of Winnemucca at a little used exit on Interstate 80.

The area between has been thoroughly searched with no sign of Carnes or his dog Lucky, but investigators are now focusing on that NHP stop nd video taken from the troopers dash camera.

The video begins with the trooper having stopped another truck. As he talks with that driver another big rig passes by, followed by Carnes’ green Subaru in the outside lane.

By law, Carnes should have pulled into the other lane, so the trooper gives chase and pulls him over a few miles up the road.

After a brief conversation, the trooper lets him go with a warning after Carnes admits he’s tired.

“I’ll never drive at night again,” he says and they both laugh, but during the conversation he also indicates he may have been following the driver of that other truck.

“Pat makes some comment that leads us to believe that he may know where this trucker is headed or he may actually know who this trucker is,” says Humboldt County Undersheriff Curtis Kull.

Investigators believe that Carnes, a former trucker himself, may have made a connection with the driver of the big rig, perhaps at a stop further east in Wendover and that driver may hold the key to finding Carnes.

In the video, the truck is speeding by and a still image taken from it is blurry, but you can make out some sort of logo on the back of its trailer. In vestigators are hoping someone can identify the truck.

“You can see an “NG” at the top upper left hand cornerm” says Kull. “and that’s what we need help with.”

Meanwhile a possible connection between this case and another missing person has surfaced.

Sixty two year old Judith Casida of Cold Springs disappeared in February of 2006. She’s never been found, but her vehicle, a white Mazda pickup was found abandoned nearly three weeks later at the same rarely used freeway exit where Carnes’ car was found abandoned five years later.

“We have no reason to believe the two cases are linked,” says Kull, while noting that two abandoned vehicles linked to two missing persons, at the same rarely used is intriguing.

After a month of searching, Kull says he’s puzzled and frustrated.

“You want to be able to tell something to his family. This is their father, their brother. It’s heartbreaking.”

Lucky is a large dog that resembles a coffee table with legs. Pat Carnes would have never left Lucky behind. Lucky has a microchip under his skin.
